Tom Murphy

Tom Murphy is Executive Vice-President & Chief Risk Officer for Sun Life. Tom is responsible for all aspects of risk management across the global enterprise, including Financial, Insurance, Credit, Operational, Asset Management and Enterprise Risk. Tom also oversees the global Actuarial and Asset Liability Management (ALM) functions and is a member of Sun Life’s global executive management team.

Prior to joining Sun Life, Tom was President of SLC Fixed Income & Head of Institutional Business for SLC Management. SLC Management is Sun Life’s fixed income and alternatives asset manager with over $250bn in assets under management and capabilities across public and private fixed income, real estate and infrastructure investments.

Tom joined SLC Management in 2018 following 20 years at Mercer. While at Mercer, Tom held numerous leadership roles including Head of the U.S. Wealth Business and Head of their U.S. and European OCIO Businesses. During his time with Mercer, Tom worked in Ireland, the UK and the U.S. and served on Irish, UK, European, North American and Global Executive Leadership teams.

Tom graduated from University College Dublin with a bachelors degree in Economics and Statistics and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. Tom also has an MBA from the Smurfit School of Business, Dublin Ireland.
