Bottom Line’s Board of Directors has appointed Steven Colón as Chief Executive Officer effective September 24, 2018.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Steve join us as the next leader of Bottom Line,” said Kevin E. Connolly, board chair. “Of all the candidates we encountered, he immediately stood out as the right fit to lead Bottom Line.”

“I chose Bottom Line because one, our advisors focus not only on access, but also on persistence, completion, and career outcomes; two, we focus on affordability; and three, because we have a data-driven program with proven impact… I truly believe it is our moral obligation to pursue ambitious strategies to reach as many students as possible,” said Colón. “I am extremely honored, excited, and humbled by the opportunity to continue to help ensure that our students' zip codes do not define their future.”

Colón’s lifelong advocacy for educational equity comes from personal experience. He grew up in Brentwood, New York, a majority LatinX community and was the first in his family to earn a college degree. This experience helped to solidify his belief in the transformative impact a bachelor’s degree can have on a family for generations.

Prior to joining Bottom Line, Steve was the Senior Vice President of Organization-Wide Learning and Strategy for Teach for America (TFA). His work focused on catalyzing TFA’s growth into a world-class learning organization. Before TFA, Steve spent 12 years with the College Board where he led strategic, analytic, and operational teams for large national programs including, Advanced Placement (AP), SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and BigFuture.org.

“Steve’s leadership stands out for the intelligence and passion he brings to the work of breaking down barriers for low-income and first-generation students. He has devoted his career to serving these students with a relentless commitment that is matched by his good humor and kindness,” said David Coleman, chief executive officer of the College Board.

Greg Johnson, the outgoing CEO and current COO, is stepping down from the interim CEO role in September after a year. During his 15 years with Bottom Line, including his year as interim CEO, Greg has been instrumental in leading the organization through a time of immense growth, development, and programmatic reach.
