Greg Johnson, Executive Director

Greg became Executive Director of Bottom Line in September 2003. Since his arrival, Bottom Line has seen tremendous growth, doubling the number of students served. Prior to joining Bottom Line, Greg worked for The Princeton Review in Boston as the Marketing and Outreach Director for nearly 6 years. It was in 1999, while at The Princeton Review, that Greg first met Dave Borgal and was introduced to the staff and students of Bottom Line. Greg grew up in Enfield, CT, went to school at Brown University ('94), and currently lives in Stoughton, MA, with his wife and daughters.

Dave Borgal, Director of Operations

Dave was born in Reading, MA, and currently lives in Saugus, MA. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Journalism from Northeastern University in 1993 and his Masters Degree in Education from Salem State College in 1994. Dave started Bottom Line in July 1997, and recruited the first class of 25 students in late August 1997. 21 of the 25 kids from the first class earned a college degree. He worked out of a small office in New Mission High School in Roxbury for the first three years before moving Bottom Line's operations to Jamaica Plain in September 2000. After stepping down from the Executive Director role in 2003, Dave rejoined Bottom Line in July 2004 to focus his efforts on program development.

Mike Wasserman, Director of Development

Mike grew up in Needham, MA, and earned his BA in Public Policy from Brown University in 2006. Mike worked as a coordinator of the Rhode Island Urban Debate League and as a debate coach at two Providence high schools. Mike also ran a youth summer theater in Needham for three years, and worked for Campus Compact doing development work. He joined Bottom Line in June 2006 as the Development Manager.

Sarah Hedges, Director of Student Services

Sarah grew up in Oakland, CA, and moved to New Hampshire in 1995. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2004 with a BA in English. Upon graduating, she worked on the Democratic National Convention and the Kerry Campaign and went on to a job in community relations at Citizens Bank. While working at Citizens, she read a proposal for funding from Bottom Line and was so inspired by the mission that she decided to apply for a job. She has been a part of Bottom Line's staff since August 2006.

Alyssa Mazzarella, Development Associate

Alyssa grew up in Columbia, CT, and graduated from Emerson College in 2009 with a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing. During college, Alyssa worked at Grub Street, a non-profit writing center in Boston, and in the development department at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. She joined Bottom Line in July 2009.

Erica Emery, Success Coordinator

Erica was born and raised in Farmington, Maine, where she also attended the University of Maine at Farmington. After graduating with a degree in Secondary Education English, Erica moved to Athens, Greece, for a year to teach as a Hellenic American Educational Foundation Teaching Fellow. During a summer position with UMF Upward Bound, Erica decided she wanted to work in the youth development field. Erica joined Bottom Line in September 2007.

Jennifer Bees, College Counselor

Jen grew up in Reno, Nevada, and moved to Massachusetts to attend Williams College, where she studied Art History. During her junior year of college, she lived with twenty first-year students as a Junior Advisor and helped them adjust to college life. After graduating in 2008, Jen spent a year teaching abroad at the American School in London. Her experience as a Junior Advisor and teacher convinced her that she wanted to work in education and student services. Jen joined Bottom Line in October 2009.

Jesenia Gervacio, College Counselor

Jesenia was born in New Jersey but grew up in Lynn, MA. She attended Bryn Mawr as a Posse Scholar and graduated with a BA in Psychology and Spanish in May 2007. While at Bryn Mawr, Jesenia worked at the Civic Engagement Office, tutored at Philly Futures and Science Leadership Academy, and was a part of the Teacher-Learning Initiative. She joined Bottom Line as a College Counselor in June 2007.

Jennifer Kincaid, College Counselor

Jennifer was raised in Lowell, MA, and recently moved to Cambridge. She graduated in May 2009 from Columbia University, where she studied Biology and Psychology. On campus, Jennifer was an active member of the social justice community and an enthusiastic Resident Assistant at the Intercultural House for two years. During college, Jennifer mentored recently-immigrated middle school students to further develop their English language skills and assist their assimilation to American culture. She also worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital through the Lang Youth Medical Program, a six-year (7th - 12th grade) academic success initiative committed to exposing disadvantaged youth interested in the sciences and medicine to related fields. Guided by her passion for the college experience and for working with students who face challenges on their journeys to college graduation, Jennifer joined Bottom Line in August 2009.

Amy Markarian, College Counselor

Amy grew up in the small town of Hopkinton, MA. She moved to Boston in the fall of 2003 to attend Northeastern University. She graduated in December of 2007 with a degree in Human Services. Throughout her time at Northeastern, she was dedicated to serving the community through various volunteer projects. She was introduced to Bottom Line as a co-op student in 2005. Amy enjoyed the experience so much that she applied to be a College Counselor upon graduation. She has been back at Bottom Line since May 2008.

Meghan Stetson, College Counselor

Meghan was born in Methuen, MA, and grew up in Oneonta, NY. She graduated from Williams College in 2007 with a major in English and a concentration in Africana Studies. Meghan spent the year after college as a teacher at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and then as a Resident Advisor for Academic Study Associates in England. Meghan returned home to Hamilton College in upstate NY and joined the Office of Sports Information and the women's basketball team coaching staff. These experiences confirmed Meghan's passion for guiding high school and college students to reach their goals. Meghan joined Bottom Line in July 2009.

Justin Strasburger, College Counselor

Justin grew up in Princeton, NJ, but spent all his summers in Maine, which led him to attend Bowdoin College, where he studied Government and Teaching. During college, Justin worked for Princeton-In-Africa, a small non-profit that arranges fellowships at non-governmental organizations in Africa for recent Princeton University graduates. Working as a camp counselor during his summer breaks from college, Justin discovered his love for working with kids. After graduating from Bowdoin in 2007, Justin served as the College Coordinator for the Harlem Children's Zone, where he helped high school students who were often in the first generation of their families to attend college navigate the college application and financial aid processes. Justin joined Bottom Line as a College Counselor in July 2009.

Fina (Maria) Fontes, College Counselor (Northeastern Co-op)

Maria grew up in the neighborhood of Dorchester in Boston, MA. She is currently studying Human Services at Northeastern University. Maria previously worked and volunteered as an AmeriCorps member for Jumpstart, a literacy tutor for the Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses: Little House, and a mentor for the Junior Achievements' Marion L. Heard Scholars Program. It was these work experiences and her interest in human services, education, and working with students that led her to become a co-op counselor at Bottom Line.

Maxine Roca, College Counselor (Northeastern Co-op)

Maxine was born in Newark, NJ, and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She currently studies Communications at Northeastern University. During her freshman year of college she taught health education at Boston Public High Schools as a peer educator through the Peer Health Exchange (PHE). During her second year at PHE, she became a Northeastern coordinator for the program. After finding her first taste of working at a non-profit challenging but rewarding, Maxine discovered Bottom Line. Being a counselor at Bottom Line was her dream co-op because it envelopes all of her interests: education, non-profits, writing, public speaking, and working with high school students.

Ginette Saimprevil, Site Director - Worcester

Ginette was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, but moved to Boston when she was ten. She is a Bottom Line Alum from New Mission High School and attended Bowdoin College where she got her degree in History in 2004. After graduating from Bowdoin in 2004, Ginette worked in the Bowdoin College Residential Life Office. In that role, she supervised the RA's and proctors and handled roommate conflicts among many other responsibilities. She brought her first-hand college life management experience to Bottom Line as a Senior College Counselor in July 2006. In July 2008, Ginette moved to Worcester to take on the leadership role at our new office in Worcester.

Yorky (Yorkiana) Mercedes, College Counselor - Worcester

Yorky was born and raised in Bronx, NY. She studied Sociology, with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies, at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. During college, she interned as the Assistant Director for Let's Get Ready, a Teacher Assistant at the Worcester Art Museum, and a Research Assistant at the Bowditch Institute for Women's Success. Yorky applied for a position at Bottom Line after learning about our organization from a Bottom Line alum. She began work at the Worcester office as a College Counselor in September 2009.

Miriam Rubin, College Counselor - Worcester

Miriam was born and raised in Brighton, MA. She attended Boston Latin Academy and then went on to Connecticut College where she graduated with a BA in Sociology. During college, Miriam was very active in the service learning programs at her school and did a lot of community service with inner-city students, as well as internships in the field of access and success in higher education. This experience has made her passionate about the challenges that Bottom Line seeks to overcome. Miriam has been a part of the Bottom Line Staff since July 2008.
