Bottom Line Announces Expansion to Worcester, Massachusetts!
There is no doubt that students in Boston need the support and guidance of Bottom Line. Since we helped our first high school senior begin the college application process 10 years ago, we have worked with more than 2,000 students, and every year that number is growing more rapidly. We know there is a need for our services, and that need goes well beyond Boston.
In the summer of 2008, we will expand beyond the city of Boston by opening a Bottom Line office in Worcester. In our first year in Worcester, we expect to serve 75 high school seniors who are the first in their family to go to college or who come from low income families. We are especially excited that one of our own alumni, Ginette Saimprevil (New Mission High School, '00 and Bowdoin College '04) will be moving to Worcester to lead that effort. Check out the story from the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.
Bottom Line Receives 5-year $695,500 Grant from The Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation
Early this year we were thrilled to learn that Bottom Line was a 2008 recipient of the Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation's Capacity Building Grant. The funds will support Bottom Line's expansion in Boston and in Worcester by providing support for additional staff, technology improvements, evaluation programs, and other infrastructure support.
Bottom Line's Wellesley Board Members Featured in Newspaper!
For the last several years, Bottom Line has been building a fantastic base of support from the suburban community of Wellesley. This winter a local newspaper featured an article about the three members of our Board of Directors from Wellesley, Viola Morse, Peter Pavlina and Peter Bishop. Each has made a great contribution to the expansion of our organization and has been spreading the word in their community. Read the Wellesley Townsman article!
Construction Has Begun on Bottom Line's NEW Boston Home
Over the last several years our staff and students have grown so rapidly that we have quickly used up all the space in our office. In 2006 we even built a loft to squeeze in some additional staff and we are already in need of space once again. On April 7th, 2008 construction began on a new two story office building at 500 Amory Street in Jamaica Plain. In the new building, expected to be completed by the end of the year, Bottom Line will have more than double our current space for our staff and students which will allow for us to continue our plans to grow over the next few years until we are serving 500 high school seniors and up to 1,000 college students every year.
Sun Life Plans to Hire 24 Bottom Line Students in Summer 2008
For the second straight summer, Sun Life Financial in Wellesley, MA has decided to hire a group of Bottom Line college students for corporate internships. Last year, 10 students were able to gain some valuable work experience in a corporate setting and earn some money for college. This summer, Sun Life has decided to expand the program with 24 positions available in departments throughout the company. Sun Life recruiters are working directly with Bottom Line staff to identify the students who will be a good match for each position and gain the most from the experience. Our hope is that the program we have built with Sun Life will be a model for other local companies interested in hiring our students.
